Meta AI model hacks into another company during testing

Meta has said that one of its AI models hacked ⁠another company during cybersecurity testing on Wednesday.

The incident which occurred after an error by the company’s testing partner gave the model unintended internet access.

A spokesperson for Meta told BBC that the company was looking into the hack, adding it was caused caused by a misconfiguration by its independent tester.

According to Meta, the trials were conducted by Irregular which carried out tests for Anthropic’s AI model that had gained access to three other companies’ systems.

“The Meta incident is the exact same evaluation-environment issue that was already disclosed by Anthropic last week,” the spokesperson stated.

The company noted that more details regarding the incident will be published once all facts are available.

The latest incident came weeks after AI leaders OpenAI and Anthropic’s models also hacked into other organisation’s systems during testing.
