Governor Ademola Adeleke, on Monday, inaugurated the first flyover in Ile Ife, located at Lagere Junction. He also inaugurated the dualisation of Mayfair Roundabout and Palace Junction Road in Ile-Ife.

Speaking at its inauguration, Mr Adeleke urged residents and the electorate to shun violence before, during and after the August 15 governorship election. The flyover was flagged off in May 2024 and designed to ease traffic congestion around the Lagere area.

He appealed to political parties and their supporters “to give peace a chance”, saying his administration was committed to peaceful coexistence and development.

Mr Adeleke said despite provocations from political opponents, his administration had deliberately avoided retaliatory actions to ensure peace and stability in the state.

The governor urged residents to reciprocate his administration’s commitment to peace by exercising their franchise peacefully and allowing their votes to determine the outcome of the election.

He also urged voters to remain vigilant and monitor the distribution of electoral materials and the process from polling units to collation centres.

“Don’t fight them. Use your vote to speak. Be vigilant and monitor the electoral process. Our victory will be determined by the people and God,” Mr Adeleke said.

The governor expressed optimism that the people would support his administration at the poll, assuring residents that more developmental projects would be delivered across the state.

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, commended Mr Adeleke for transforming Ile Ife through the construction of the flyover and dualised road leading to the palace.

Mr Ogunwusi said that the projects were unprecedented in the ancient city, adding that Ile-Ife residents appreciated the governor’s commitment to the development of the town and Osun.

“I thanked the governor for this road and bridge which we have never seen before. The governor surprised us and uplifted Ile Ife,” stated the monarch.

The Ooni, who described himself as a father to all political interests, said public officials who performed well deserved commendation, irrespective of their political affiliation.

China’s rocket prepared to launch a satellite into orbit exploded 85 seconds after liftoff on Monday. A viral video showed the Long March 7A rocket erupting into a fireball as it blasted off from the Wenchang Space Launch Site on the island of Hainan. The state news agency Xinhua said the rocket blasted off at 8.02 p.m. Beijing time (1202GMT), attributing the failure to a flight anomaly. It added that the cause of the failure was under investigation. The failure could force China to check other launches should investigators trace the problem to shared components, manufacturing or Wenchang launch operations. Commenting on the development, Elon Musk stated, "Rockets are insanely hard. There is a reason for the idiomatic expression. I hope they have a speedy recovery." The failure of the Long March 7A came six years after its maiden flight in March 2020, when an in-flight malfunction made the mission to fall through. satellite-carrying rocket explodes
