Adeleke campaign council alleges invasion of Osun sssembly Speaker Egbedun’s residence by armed security agents
Governor Ademola Adeleke’s campaign council has raised the alarm over alleged invasion of the Osun State House of Assembly Speaker, Adewale Egbedun’s residence by armed security agents on Saturday.
In a statement by its spokesperson Pelumi Olajengbesi, the council said Mr Egbedun’s residence was besieged by “armed security personnel who reportedly arrived in more than 10 black Hilux vehicles.”
“We have also been informed that the residence has effectively been sealed off, with everyone inside reportedly prevented from leaving the premises. At this moment, we cannot independently confirm the purpose of their presence, whether they are there to provide security or are carrying out routine official duties,” the statement said.
The council called on the relevant security agencies to immediately clarify the purpose of the deployment and restriction of movement at the speaker’s residence.
It added, “We have called the publicly available official contact line of the commissioner of police for the election, but our calls were not answered.
“The councilalso called the DIG Election contact line without response. We further attempted to reach the Police Situation Room, but the publicly provided number is currently switched off.”
Noting that the people of Osun State deserve an atmosphere free from fear and intimidation, the council said security deployments must inspire confidence and protect the integrity of the electoral process.
“The people of Osun State must be allowed to come out peacefully and decide their future according to their own conscience, without intimidation or interference,” it stated.
Thr council urged everyone to remain peaceful and law-abiding while it awaiting an official explanation from the relevant security authorities.
Cntacted for comment on the development, the state police spokesperson Abiodun Ojelabi, said the divisional police officer was currently on his way to confirm the development.
“The DPO is currently going there to factcheck the situation. I’ll get back to you with details,” Mr Ojelabi stated.
