The police command in Anambra says its operatives have detained a 19-year-old male suspect, Mustapha Sani, over an Infinix Android phone allegedly stolen in Adamawa.

Its spokesman, Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday.

Mr Ikenga said State Intelligence Department operatives detained and recovered the phone on October 19 after intelligence-led policing and proactive efforts to track down the suspect.

Mr Ikenga alleged the suspect dispossessed unsuspecting victims of their mobile phones in Adamawa before fleeing to Anambra.

He said that the stolen devices were reportedly intended for sale or use.

According to him, investigators are currently examining the recovered phone to establish the full circumstances surrounding the alleged offence.

He said that the command had commenced further investigations to determine the suspect’s involvement and facilitate the return of the recovered phone to its rightful owner.

The police commissioner, Nnanna Ama, said that the command was committed to combating criminal activities and recovering stolen property.

Mr Ama said that the command would ensure that criminal suspects are brought to justice in accordance with the law.

He reassured residents and visitors that the command would sustain intelligence-led operations and proactive policing efforts to protect lives and property.
