Osun State police command has denied invasion of the state House of Assembly Speaker Adewale Egbedun’s residence on Saturday.

The command’sspokesperson Abiodun Ojelabi, in a telephone interview with the Peoples Gazette, dismissed the allegation as untrue.

“There is nothing like that,” Mr Ojelabi said. “About 15 minutes after we received the report, the DPO went there and confirmed that there was nothing like that.”

The command’s reaction came after Governor Ademola Adeleke’s campaign council alleged that armed security agents in more than 10 black Hilux vehicles besieged the speaker’s residence.

“We have also been informed that the residence has effectively been sealed off, with everyone inside reportedly prevented from leaving the premises. At this moment, we cannot independently confirm the purpose of their presence, whether they are there to provide security or are carrying out routine official duties,” the council stated.

The allegation came amid the ongoing governorship election in the state.

Mr Adeleke of the Accord Party is seeking re-election as Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress and Najeem Salaam of the African Democratic Congress are also contesting the governorship seat in a poll observed viewed as a two-horse race.
