Lagos recruits 45 personnel to boost enforcement on Lekki-Epe corridor
The Lagos State government says it has recruited 45 personnel for the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) to strengthen traffic enforcement along the Lekki-Epe corridor.
The commissioner for transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, made this known at a media conference on Thursday in Lagos.
The conference was organised by the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation.
Mr Osiyemi noted that the corridor, which was a remote area, had staffing challenges that slowed down operations, particularly at weekends.
“Government recruited residents from the affected area to improve operational efficiency and reduce commuting challenges for enforcement officers.
“The enforcement activities will be intensified following the recruitment,” he said.
Also, the special adviser to the governor on transportation, Sola Giwa, urged transport unions, truck operators and Dangote Refinery to ensure compliance with designated truck parks.
Mr Giwa warned that indiscriminate parking and the refusal of some operators to use available parks continued to worsen congestion along the corridor.
“Government does not want what happened in Apapa and its environs to occur in Lekki-Epe corridor and so, we will ensure that compliance is adhered,” he said.
