A hungry man died by suicide after he was not given food in a restaurant somewhere in the coastal district of La Marsa in Tunisia.

On Saturday, Gulf News reported that according to accounts of the incident, the man approached the restaurant saying he was hungry and wanted something to eat. After being told the restaurant could not provide another meal, he left the area without causing a disturbance.

The report stated that “the man returned a short time later after reportedly buying a razor blade nearby and inflicted serious injuries on himself outside the restaurant in front of passers-by. Civil protection crews were called to the scene, but the man died after suffering severe blood loss.”

The man’s death has sparked reactions among Tunisians. However, the restaurant’s management issued a statement saying the man was at the restaurant earlier the same day and was given a free meal. But he returned that evening seeking another meal, which they did not provide.
