DHQ warns against fake posts after attempted X account breach

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) says it detected an attempted unauthorised compromise of its official X account.
The Director of Defence Information, Maj.-Gen. Samaila Uba, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday in Abuja.
Mr Uba stated that the incident was being treated as a cybersecurity matter, with appropriate technical measures activated to secure the account.
He said efforts were ongoing to fully restore control of the official account and prevent further unauthorised access.
The defence spokesman, therefore, urged the public and media to disregard any suspicious, unauthorised or misleading content posted from the account.
He said, “The Defence Headquarters remains committed to maintaining the highest standards of information security and ensuring that the public continues to receive accurate, timely and credible information.”
Mr Uba added that DHQ appreciated the public’s understanding and vigilance, assuring that it would provide further updates as necessary.
He urged Nigerians to rely on DHQ’s verified Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp channels for official information on the activities and operations of the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
