Police arrest two suspected kidnappers in Ondo

The Ondo State police command says it arrested two suspected kidnappers in connection with the abduction of a man, Abubakar Abdullahim, in Molege, via Owo, Ondo State, on August 1.
A statement on Sunday by Abayomi Jimoh, the command’s spokesman, said the suspects were arrested following credible intelligence by the anti-kidnapping squad in Akure.
“Acting on credible intelligence, the operatives proceeded to Oyo State, where they worked in collaboration with the Oyo State police command and arrested one Adamu Rabiu, male adult, in Ibadan,” he said.
He stated that in a related development, the second suspect, Haruna Likita, was arrested around Ipele, via Owo, Ondo State, in connection with the same kidnapping incident.
Mr Jimoh said that preliminary investigation has established links between the two suspects and the kidnapping of Mr Abdullahim.
According to him, both suspects made statements admitting their alleged involvement in the crime during interrogation.
“Their statements, alongside other emerging intelligence, are being further investigated to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident and identify other persons who may be connected to the crime,” he stated.
He noted that the suspects will, however, be charged in court once the investigation concludes.
“Efforts are ongoing to pursue all credible leads and deploy intelligence-driven strategies to dismantle kidnapping networks and prevent criminal elements from finding refuge within Ondo State,” he added.
