Police nab two suspects over alleged lynching of man in Ghana

Police said investigations are also ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

Ghana police have arrested two suspects identified as, Adejei Abdulahi and Isaah Mahama for allegedly lyching a young man at Daboya in the North Gonja district of the Savannah region of Ghana.

A statement on Wednesday by David Kahere Icon, the regional police commander, said the suspects were still being held in custody following investigations into the incident in which they were captured in a circulated video. 

He said Mr Abdulahi, 25, a carpenter and Mr Mahama, 22 a student were taken into the custody following a video of lyching a man.

“Preminary Investigations indicate that the victim, identified as Vibonwura was allegedly attacked and severely assaulted after he was accused of stealing sheanuts,” he said.

Mr Icon said the victim subsequently died from the injuries sustained during the assault.

“The two arrested suspects are currently in Police custody assisting investigations and a manhunt is underway for the third suspect, who is currently at large,” he said.

He added that investigations are also ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident and ensure that all persons connected to the crime are brought to justice.
