Akwaaba Expo: Gambia seeks robust tourism feasibility, stronger regional ties with Nigeria

The Gambia is seeking bigger tourism footprint in Nigeria and stronger regional ties through its participation in the 2026 Akwaaba Travel Trade Expo.
In a statement on Friday, the expo organisers said Gambia would participate in the event alongside tourism, travel and aviation stakeholders from across Africa.
It stated that the delegation, led by Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Abdoulie Jobe, alongside other tourism stakeholders, including The Gambia Tourism Board Chairman, Momodou Saho, would bring Gambian tourism businesses into contact with Nigerian travel agencies, tour operators, airlines and other industry players.
According to the statement, the engagement will provide opportunities for discussions on partnerships, investment and increased visitor traffic between Gambia and Nigeria.
It stated that a major focus of the Gambian delegation would be promoting the country as an emerging Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE) destination.
The country would highlight its facilities, hospitality infrastructure and opportunities for hosting conferences, corporate events and other business-related gatherings.
The statement said the MICE focus would also create opportunities for collaboration between Gambian tourism operators and their Nigerian and regional counterparts.
Ahead of the expo, Team Gambia will host a Destination Gambia Promotional Cocktail Reception on September 12 for travel and tourism stakeholders.
The reception will bring together travel agencies, tour operators, airlines, aviation stakeholders, logistics companies, investors and other tourism professionals.
The 2026 Akwaaba Travel Trade Expo is scheduled to hold in Lagos from September 13 to 15.
