Nigeria will not be hub for Yahoo Boys swindling Americans, others: Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu, on Saturday, said his administration is determined to fight internet and cybercrimes, warning that Nigeria would not be a haven for Yahoo Boys targeting Americans and other foreign nationals.
Against the backdrop of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s commendation of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr Tinubu, in a statement by his spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, lauded the anti-graft agency for its role in the extradition of two Lagos Yahoo Boys, Adebola Festus Adekunle and Mudasiru Afeez Olawale, in August 2026.
“Nigeria must never become a haven for criminals who exploit innocent people, whether at home or abroad. Our law enforcement and anti-corruption institutions have my full support to pursue offenders and bring them to justice in accordance with the law,” Mr Tinubu said.
He added, “This is the kind of institutional performance we are determined to build across our country. I commend the EFCC Chairman and his team for their professionalism and dedication.”
Mr Tinubu described the arrest and extradition of Messrs Adekunle and Olawale as developments that reflected his administration’s commitment to strengthening financial integrity, restoring international confidence and creating a more secure environment for legitimate businesses and investment.
“Our fight against corruption is not measured by publicity but by results. Stronger institutions, effective law enforcement and international cooperation are essential to building a Nigeria where honest enterprise can thrive, and criminals are held accountable,” Mr Tinubu said.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) last Sunday announced the arrest of nine Nigerians in its global crackdown on fraudsters.
“Operation Blackout is taking the fight directly to the international cybercriminal networks stealing billions from Americans,” FBI czar Kash Patel said, adding FBI’s “latest operation in Nigeria delivered: 9 arrests, 53 electronic devices seized and $11 million in potentially freezable funds identified across multiple countries.”
