The police in Cheshire have commenced investigation into a theft on Monday of over 800 barrels of Guinness worth £115,000, which is 70,000 pints, from two lorries in a depot in Liverpool City, northwest England, the BBC reported on Thursday.

The theft was said to have been carried out around 7:45 a.m., by two men who entered an industrial estate in Aston Lane in Runcorn, with a lorry which they connected to a HGV trailer containing barrels of Guinness before they drove off at 7:55 a.m., in the direction of the Mersey Gateway.

At 9:12 p.m., another lorry was said to have arrived the site and connected to another trailer containing barrels of Guinness, before leaving at around 9.30pm, and headed in the direction of Rainhill and Watkinson Way.

Detective Sergeant McClatchy, told journalists that, “It is famously said that ‘Guinness is good for you,’ but that is only the case when it has been bought and paid for.

“We have wasted no time in launching enquiries to identify those responsible for the theft of £115,000 (€134,000) Guinness and the two trailers that housed the barrels. We will settle for nothing less than the full recovery of all the items stolen.”

The trailers which are said to be white Tri-Axle Curtain side trailers with GXO company branding on curtains and rear doors, have unique ID numbers on their rear doors in the top left corner, marked DL736 or DL542.

The police said the first suspect is white with a short dark beard and wearing a beanie hat, while the second suspect is “believed to have been wearing a cap.”

The police urged anyone with any information or video footage taken in the area around the said time of the theft to contact them.
