Three killed, 20 injured in Osun auto crash

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Osun sector command, says three people lost their lives while 20 others sustained injuries in an accident that occurred on Saturday at Tonkere town, along the Ife-Ilesa Expressway.
The state sector commander, Sunday Adebayo, who made this known in a statement in Osogbo, said the accident involved a Toyota Hiace bus and a Volkswagen Golf car.
Mr Adebayo said preliminary findings indicated that speeding and dangerous driving contributed to the accident.
He explained that the accident involved 23 people, comprising 11 females, nine males and three children, two boys and a girl.
The sector commander disclosed that the deceased comprised two females and one male.
“Three people died. We have about 20 others who were injured in the accident.
“The accident happened due to speeding and dangerous driving,” Mr Adebayo said.
He added that FRSC patrol teams from Ife and Ilesa were deployed to the scene of the accident to conduct rescue operations and manage the aftermath of the crash.
He said the injured victims were taken to undisclosed hospitals for medical attention.
The sector commander appealed to motorists to exercise caution while driving, adding that lower speeds could reduce the severity of injuries and fatalities during accidents.
Mr Adebayo assured residents that the corps would sustain its public enlightenment campaigns and road safety initiatives across the state to reduce road accidents and prevent avoidable deaths.
He urged motorists to recognise their responsibility towards other road users, noting that road safety should be a shared responsibility for the safety of lives and property.
