The Atan Community Development Council has announced the demise of  Joel Olusegun Fasina, the Onikooko of Kooko Ebiye in Atan-Odo Ota, Ogun state.

Confirming the demise in a statement on Sunday, the Atan CDC chairman, Sunday Olatunji, announced a daily five-hour movement restriction during a nine-day traditional rite, beginning on Monday, to honour the monarch who died on Sunday.

“The Atan-Ota community has been thrown into mourning following the passing of Oba Joel Olusegun Fasina, the Onikooko of Kooko Ebiye.

“As the community continues to come to terms with the monarch’s death, traditional rites in honour of the late monarch are scheduled to commence tomorrow, Monday, September 7, 2026, and will last for nine days.

“As part of the arrangements, movement within the affected community is restricted between 11:00 p.m. and 4:00 a.m. throughout the nine-day period,” said the CDC statement.

Mr Olatunji urged residents and visitors to exercise caution and cooperate with the community during the traditional rites to ensure peace and security throughout the period.

He also advised residents, business owners, motorists and visitors in Atan-Ota and neighbouring communities, “to plan their movements accordingly and avoid unnecessary movement during the restricted hours”.

The CDC appealed for calm, vigilance, and respect for the traditional processes surrounding the burial rites of the late monarch, while extending condolences to the royal family, community members, and those affected by the monarch’s passing.
