The Director-General of the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), Jean Kaseya, has welcomed increased United Kingdom support for the Ebola response in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

The additional commitment raises the UK’s total assistance for the Ebola response to €78.7 million.

Africa CDC said this in a statement posted on its official X account on Tuesday, noting that the additional funding would strengthen ongoing efforts to contain the Ebola outbreak currently affecting both the DRC and Uganda.

According to Mr Kaseya, the latest support will enhance regional coordination, preparedness and response activities as African countries, health authorities and development partners intensify measures aimed at preventing further spread of the disease across borders.

He commended the UK for recognising African leadership in the response efforts and expressed appreciation to Minister Kirsty McNeill and the UK Government for their continued solidarity and commitment throughout the outbreak response.

“Kaseya said Africa CDC remains fully mobilised alongside the DRC, neighbouring countries and partners to stop the outbreak and protect affected communities from the devastating impact of Ebola,” the statement said.
