The police command in Kaduna has arrested a man, Manaseh Bitrus Jatau, in connection with the death of his girlfriend, Rebecca Jeremiah, 35.
Its spokesman, Mansir Hassan, disclosed this in a statement on Friday.

Mr Hassan said Ms Jeremiah, a resident of Karatudu, was found dead along Mai Angwa Street, Romi, on Saturday, at about 7:00 a.m. The lifeless body of the woman was discovered with cotton wool stuffed in her nostrils.

Police detectives from the Romi Outstation immediately visited the scene and evacuated the body to St Gerald Hospital, Kakuri, Kaduna, where a doctor confirmed her death.

The command’s spokesperson said the corpse was deposited at the hospital mortuary for autopsy, stating that preliminary investigation revealed that Mr Jatau was the last person to have called the Ms Jeremiah to meet him at Ebano Joint, Romi.

He added that the suspect was subsequently traced and arrested at his place of work, Tomato Jos Company, Maraban Jos Area, Kaduna.

Mr Hassan said during interrogation, the suspect confessed to having engaged Ms Jeremiah in a fight in his room over a phone call from another woman, which allegedly resulted in her death.

He said the suspect further confessed to dumping the body in an open field close to his residence in an attempt to conceal the crime.

The suspect remained in police custody while investigation into the case continued.
