Chinese President Xi Jinping has urged police officers to remain committed to serving the people, safeguarding public security and demonstrating responsibility and dedication.

Mr Xi, who is also General Secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, made the call in a reply letter to the “Zhangzhou 110” police unit in Fujian Province.

Mr Xi commended officers of the unit for their dedication and hard work at the grassroots level in serving the public and maintaining social stability.

He urged Chinese police to uphold their fine traditions, respond to the needs and concerns of the people, and work diligently to protect public safety.

Mr Xi said police officers bore an important responsibility for safeguarding the wellbeing of the people and maintaining peace in the country.

The “Zhangzhou 110” unit is regarded as an exemplary grassroots police force in China and pioneered a rapid-response mechanism linked to the 110 emergency call service in 1990.

The unit has played a significant role in combating crime, maintaining public security and providing community services.

During his tenure in Fujian, Mr Xi visited the police unit three times to inspect its operations and guide its work.

Recently, members of the unit wrote to Mr Xi, reporting on their work and expressing their determination to fulfil their duties on China’s new journey.
