Dayo Faduyile, lawmaker representing the Ondo South senatorial district at the National Assembly,  has dissociated himself from a fake Facebook handle opened in his name by scammers to scam unsuspecting members of the public.

Mr Faduyile made this known in a statement signed by his media aide, Steve Ovirih, on Tuesday in Okitipupa.

The fake Facebook account is named Sen. Francis Adedayo Faduyile, whereas his genuine handle is Prof. Dayo Faduyile.

Mr Faduyile said scammers were using the fake account to solicit money from unsuspecting members of the public under the pretext of awarding non-existent Abuja contracts.

“My attention has been drawn to a Facebook handle, Sen. Francis Adedayo Faduyile, crafted by some unscrupulous elements with the motive of a grand deception scheme bordering on some non-existent Abuja contracts. The scammers generate letters, texts and messages and send them to unsuspecting members of the public, requesting them to show interest in bidding for Abuja contracts and invariably requesting money from them.

“I wish to dissociate myself and the office from such a grand scheme to defraud innocent members of the public of their hard-earned money. At no time will the Office of Ondo South Senator stoop so low as to reach out to individuals for any contract, be it in Abuja or any part of Nigeria.

“The responsibility of a senator is to make laws and carry out other important legislative duties and not award contracts. I make bold to state that proper machinery will be put in place to find out the unscrupulous element behind the scam,” Mr Faduyile said.

He urged the public to beware of the fake Facebook account and refrain from transacting with it to avoid losing their hard-earned money.
