Abuja scavenger arraigned for allegedly stealing 35 bags of chicken feed
A scavenger, Labaran Ibrahim, was on Thursday arraigned in a Dutse Senior Magistrates’ Court in Abuja for allegedly stealing 35 bags of chicken feed worth N400,000 from a poultry farm.
The police charged Ibrahim with criminal trespass and theft, contrary to Sections 348 and 288 of the Penal Code Law of Northern Nigeria.
The Prosecution Counsel, Juliana Atinko, told the court that the complainant, Ogechi Nwando, who lives in Dei-Dei, Abuja reported the matter at the Divisional Police Headquarters, Dei-Dei.
Ms Atinko told the court that Nwando discovered that 35 bags of chicken feed were missing from her poultry farm on September 2.
She said the complainant installed a CCTV camera on the farm and the footage showed the defendant with bags of the chicken feed.
The prosecution alleged that the defendant gained access to the farm by using “master keys.”
She said the defendant was later arrested while attempting to sell the stolen chicken feed.
The defendant however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Senior Magistrate, Yusuf Alkali, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N500,000 with two reliable sureties in like sum.
He ordered that the sureties must reside within the jurisdiction of the court and provide reliable means of identification.
He adjourned the matter until October 9 for hearing.
