NHRC receives 120 complaints, resolves 75 in one month
The National Human Rights Commission in Kano said it received 120 complaints in August. The NHRC coordinator, Shehu Abdullahi, disclosed this in an interview on Monday in Kano.
He said that 75 cases had been treated while 45 were pending. Mr Abdullahi stated that 80 cases concerned child abandonment and child rights violations.
According to him, 29 of the cases received during the period under review were on domestic violence and the right to life.
“The remaining 11 cases concerned economic and cultural rights, law enforcement abuses and neglect of parental responsibilities,” he said.
Mr Abdullahi said the commission also mediated marital matters.
He urged couples to be more tolerant of one another to better handle their responsibilities.
The coordinator said the commission will continue to strengthen collaboration with security operatives and other relevant agencies to promote and protect human rights.
