Andrew Hubbard of Maryland Heights will be sentenced on December 1 after pleading guilty to his role in arranging the murder of his mother, Andreaia Worthem, over a $150,000 insurance payout.

A statement by the Department of Justice said Mr Hubbard, 40, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to murder-for-hire in June.

Federal prosecutors said Mr Hubbard plotted with Kim Mosley, 33, and Eric Washington, 47, in 2023 to kill Ms Worthem over proceeds of the $150,000 insurance policy he applied for on her behalf in 2019.

Mr Hubbard initially planned to kill Ms Worthem, 53, with cocaine base laced with fentanyl or heroin and promised to pay Ms Mosley $50,000 if the plan succeeded.

“He then asked his cousin, Washington, to give his mother the drugs, knowing that Washington had recently overdosed. Washington agreed to supply the spiked cocaine for $10,000. Around 10:00 p.m. on July 6, 2023, Washington picked up Worthem from her home in St. Louis County and drove her to St. Louis, where Washington shot her multiple times,” the DOJ said.

Police recovered her body the following morning. Later that day, Ms Mosley paid Mr Washington $200 for Ms Worthem’s cellphone, which was later destroyed.

Mr Washington claimed he shot Ms Worthem because the cocaine base failed to work and was later driven back to St. Louis by Ms Mosley and Mr Hubbard, who helped him return the car he had used to pick up Ms Worthem.

“Hubbard paid Washington $450 and gave him cocaine and marijuana as a form of payment,” the statement said. “Washington, impatient over not receiving the promised $10,000, would later call the insurance company to ask about the proceeds, saying he had ‘done some work’ for Hubbard, who owed him money.”

Ms Mosley and Mr Washington both pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit murder-for-hire resulting in personal injury. Ms Mosley is scheduled to be sentenced on October 21 and Mr Washington on January 20.
