Germany, Hungary agree to deepen defence cooperation
Germany and Hungary have agreed to deepen defence cooperation in logistics, military training and joint exercises.
German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius said this on Friday at a joint news conference with Hungarian Defence Minister Romulusz Ruszin-Szendi after their talks in Budapest.
Mr Pistorius said closer defence cooperation between the two countries would strengthen their respective capabilities and contribute to NATO’s overall defence capacity.
He said Germany and Hungary had maintained reliable and professional military cooperation in recent years and would build on the existing foundation to further strengthen their ties.
Mr Pistorius said Germany was also prepared to support Hungary by sharing expertise related to German-made weapons systems.
Ruszin-Szendi said Hungary’s security depended on a strong national defence force and cooperation with its partners.
He said German made equipment had contributed significantly to Hungary’s military modernisation, including helicopters, tanks and artillery systems.
According to him, Hungary’s heavy brigade capability offered to NATO would not have been developed without German support.
Mr Ruszin-Szendi noted that Mr Pistorius was the first German defence minister to visit Hungary since 2020.
