Three suspected kidnappers have been arrested over the abduction of a resident, Ayuba Sumiya Mawudu, alias Haruna, at Dobini Bunban near Yendi in Ghana’s Northern Region.

The Ghana police service disclosed this on Thursday.

The suspects, Mahumudu Abdulai, 32, Ganiu Sumaila, 32, and Abdulai Salam, 28, were arrested on Tuesday at different locations in Sang, Mion District.

“Preliminary investigations established that the victim was abducted on 25th September 2026 by four-armed men who attacked him and his brother at their residence,” the police said.

The police added that the suspects later contacted the victim’s family and demanded GH¢100,000 for his release.

“The victim managed to escape from his captors and was taken to a clinic in Sambu for medical attention,” it said.

It added that police proceeded to the facility, where they found and interviewed the victim.

“He informed police that he was taken to an undisclosed location and kept under guard by armed men but he later managed to escape and was assisted to safety by some farmers in Sambu,” the post read.

According to the police, the victim subsequently identified the three arrested suspects from their photographs.

Police said further investigations also indicated that the suspects might be linked to other robbery incidents in the area.

The police noted that the three suspects were currently in custody assisting with investigations, adding that efforts were ongoing to arrest the remaining accomplices and establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
