INEC acting chairman swears in new REC

The INEC acting chairman Ahmed Mu’azu on Monday swore-in Joseph Chukwuemeka as a Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja.
The swearing-in comes hours after Mr. Mu’azu assumed office following the hand over of the commission’s responsibility to him by erstwhile chairman, Mahmood Yakubu.
Mr. Yakubu is awaiting his confirmation following his nomination by President Buhari for another term in office.
Mr. Mu’azu, while carrying out his first official assignment as acting chairman of the commission, said that Mr. Chukwuemeka who is from Abia State has been deployed as REC for Ebonyi.
He said he has no doubt that the new REC would discharge his responsibilities according to the oath of office that he took.
The acting chairman charged him to be neutral and act within the laws and regulations guiding his office and work of the commission.
“You are nominated and confirmed based on your past records, please stick to the mandate and core values of this commission.” Mr. Mu’azu said.
Responding, Mr. Chukwuemeka commended President Muhammadu Buhari for his nomination as INEC REC.
He pledged to discharge his role intelligently and promote Nigeria’s democracy.
