NRC targets better rail services through reviewed SOP

The Nigerian Railway Corporation has reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing efficiency and delivering improved services by institutionalising robust standard operating procedures.
NRC’s managing director, Kayode Opeifa, gave the assurance in a statement he issued on Thursday in Lagos at a two-day retreat in Abeokuta.
Mr Opeifa said the reviewed SOPs would standardise operations, minimise operational risks and strengthen accountability across all levels in the corporation.
According to him, SOP is not bureaucracy but a practical document that tells every member of staff what to do, how to do it and who is responsible for what.
“Effective SOPs will strengthen operational efficiency, promote safety and align the corporation’s operations with global best practices,” he said.
The NRC boss charged all directors and other participants at the event to engage fully, critically and constructively.
“Review with the eye of a leader. Challenge existing gaps and own the solutions. Let us leave here with SOPs that are practical, enforceable and fit for the railway we are building today,” he said.
He noted that more than 150 SOPs were to be reviewed during the retreat with the aim of building a stronger, more efficient and more effective NRC.
He said that increased collaboration among departments within the NRC would strengthen teamwork and contribute significantly to the corporation’s transformation.
