After Gazette report, Meta deletes ‘Nigeria Islamic Revolution’ Facebook page for inciting terrorism among Muslims
Meta, the parent company of Facebook, has taken down Nigeria Islamic Revolution’s Facebook page that charged Muslims to acquire piloting skills as a means of carrying out terrorist attacks shortly after a Flydubai co-pilot, Hamam Al Hammami, stabbed a flight captain while attempting to crash an Israel-bound flight, following Peoples Gazette’s report.
A Meta spokesperson told The Gazette that the Facebook page and post had been deleted.
“There is no place on our platforms for people or content that promote or incite violence, and we have removed the content and page for violating our policies,” a Meta spokesperson told The Gazette on Friday.
Checks by The Gazette on Friday showed that the Facebook page had been taken down.
The page, with 7,800 followers, said, “My fellow Muslim youths, go and learn to become pilots. It is the easiest way to put tears in the eyes of our enemies.”
Although the account owner described himself as a “lover of Prophet Muhammad”, fighting Islamophobia and opposing violence and extremism, its timeline contains several extremist views, with one post stating, “We eat from the Christians, collect their money, receive food from them. We will still deal with them because they are infidels.”
The page’s post encouraging the use of planes to carry out terrorist attacks garnered more than a thousand reactions and hundreds of shares. It came two days after the foiled Flydubai terrorist attack and amid investigations into the motive of Mr Al Hammami’s attempted crashing of the Israel-bound Flydubai flight FZ1073.
UAE authorities confirmed preliminary investigations showed that Mr Al-Hammani wanted to crash the Flydubai flight after stabbing its captain, Smit Machchar, with a hammer.
Mr Al-Hammani confessed to interrogators that he planned the attack long before joining the airline, saying, “I tried to get hired by all the airlines. I planned the operation even before I was accepted by the company. The dream was to crash into Ben-Gurion Airport.”
