The Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) has provisionally suspended forward Cristiano Ronaldo over his decision to abruptly leave camp during the past international window following disagreement with head coach Jorge Jesus.

Despite the 41-year-old apologising for his actions and blaming Jesus for breaking a promise to allow him to play 30 minutes in the match against Norway, the federation has opened a disciplinary hearing against Ronaldo.

In a statement on Saturday, the FPF confirmed that it had launched a disciplinary probe into the Manchester United and Real Madrid legend, adding that he would be automatically suspended from the national team under its rules pending the outcome of the case.

“The initiation of disciplinary proceedings against Cristiano Ronaldo, by deliberation of the Non-Professional Section, of October 9, 2026, with the purpose of the investigation of any disciplinary relevance of the facts participated on October 7.

“Without prejudice to the automatic preventive suspension to which he was subject until the date of establishment, the non-automatic preventive suspension of the player was determined and the urgent nature was attributed to the process,” the federation said.

Meanwhile, Ronaldo scored on his return to club football on Friday as Al Nassr beat Diriyah 3-0 to move second on the Saudi Pro League table.
