Man who stole copper wire to clean toilets for 82 hours

An Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court on Friday ordered 25-year-old Kareem Akeem to clean public toilets for 82 hours for stealing copper wire valued at N200,000.
Mr Akeem, who resides at 4, Ipaja Road, Ikola, Lagos, pleaded guilty to theft and begged the court for leniency.
The Prosecution Counsel, Olusegun Oke, told the court the offence was committed on August 13 at Dangote Sinotruk Company, Oba Akran Avenue, Ikeja, where he was caught with a copper wire valued at N200,000.
Mr Oke said the offence contravened provisions of Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
Chief Magistrate D. S. Odukoya sentenced Mr Akeem without an option of fine, saying the sentence would serve as a deterrent to others.
