The Niger State police command has arrested a 25-year-old suspect, Mohammed Ibrahim, also known as Manga, over the alleged murder of a commercial motorcyclist and theft of his motorcycle along the Gidan-Kwano/Maikunkele Road.
In a statement on Wednesday, the command’s spokesperson, Wasiu Abiodun, said the suspect was arrested on October 1, 2026.
He stated, “Preliminary investigation revealed that on 30th September 2026, at about 5:00p.m, the suspect engaged the services of one Shehu Mohammed 23yrs, a commercial motorcyclist from Pai Village Bosso LGA, to convey him from Beji to Garatu Village, where he claimed he intended to visit some friends.”
He said the suspect allegedly conspired with two accomplices, identified as Risku and another person, currently at large, to attack the motorcyclist while returning from Garatu village around midnight.
According to the police, the victim was beheaded, while his new Bajaj motorcycle was stolen by the assailant.
Mr Abiodun said the suspect confessed to his involvement in the crime, adding that the stolen motorcycle and a cutlass were recovered from him.
He said efforts were ongoing to arrest the fleeing accomplices and bring them to justice.
The spokesperson added that the suspect was being held at the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) as investigations continued to establish the full circumstances of the incident.
He said the suspect would be charged before a court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
