Zamfara group hails Matawalle for return of suspended APC lawmakers

A political group in Zamfara, the ‘Matawalle Political Standing Committee’, has commended deputy defence minister Bello Matawalle. The commendation is for his efforts in facilitating the return of the eight suspended lawmakers of the Zamfara House of Assembly to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
This was disclosed in a statement on Wednesday by Yusuf Idris, spokesman for the Matawalle Political Standing Committee.
The eight lawmakers were suspended by the Zamfara assembly in February 2024 over alleged violation of House Standing Rules.
The lawmakers recently announced their resignation from the APC over alleged lack of unity and internal democracy in the Zamfara chapter of the party.
The eight lawmakers, led by Matawalle, recently met with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, and returned to the APC.
The group appreciated the minister’s singular effort in facilitating the return of the eight suspended lawmakers of the Zamfara assembly.
“Matawalle displayed political acumen, experience and the exhibition of his decades in active politics in the country. No political party can afford to lose eight of its serving members of the state assembly to the opposition at this time when all parties are preparing for the forthcoming 2027 general elections,” he said.
According to him, the lawmakers have political relevance, especially at the grassroots.
