Ilhan Omar denies brother-marriage allegation amid federal investigation

Amid a probe into allegations that she married her brother to help him get American citizenship, Ilhan Omar, a Somali-born American Democratic lawmaker, has addressed the matter, dismissing the allegations as “insane”.
In an interview with Fox News on Wednesday, Ms Omar said she was unaware of any familial connection to her ex-husband, Ahmed Nur Said Elmi.
“Not to my knowledge,” Ms Omar said when asked about the allegations that she married her brother, adding that the allegations originated from a Somali blog she is not sure still exists.
Federal agents raided Ms Omar’s Washington home on October 12 to execute a search warrant. Wednesday’s interview was her first after her home was raided.
Ms Omar denied any wrongdoing while accusing President Donald Trump of weaponising law enforcement agents.
Former President Barack Obama condemned Ms Omar’s home raid as a political witch-hunt a few days before midterm elections.
However, Mr Trump insisted Ms Omar risked being jailed and deported if found guilty of immigration fraud.
