Trump hurls insults at Norway over Nobel Peace Prize snub

President Donald Trump launched a tirade against Norway on Sunday, describing it as a “shithouse country” that “sucks” after Oslo again failed to award him the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize.
He made the remarks while campaigning for Republicans in Port Huron, Michigan, on Sunday, stressing that Norwegian immigrants are not welcome in the U.S.
“Frankly, Norway sucks,” Mr Trump said. “Norway has become a shithouse country, actually.”
Mr Trump, who has repeatedly blamed immigrants for stoking riots in France and tightened U.S. immigration rules, said he would accept immigrants but also snub those from Norway.
“Because I didn’t get the Nobel Prize … So I don’t want anybody from Norway” or “anything to do with Norway,” the U.S. leader said.
Norway was the latest addition to a list of nations the U.S. leader has labelled shithouse. Such countries include Haiti, Somalia and Yemen.
Venezuela’s opposition leader María Corina Machado was awarded the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize, which she gifted to Mr Trump for his efforts to uphold democracy in the oil-rich state and war against drug dealers.
But the Nobel Committee issued a statement clarifying that the award cannot be transferred.
“A Nobel Prize can neither be revoked, shared, nor transferred to others. Once the announcement has been made, the decision stands for all time,” the statement said
Mr Trump berated the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize winner, Navi Pillay, a South African judge who has worked with the United Nations and the International Criminal Court.
He said Ms Pillay was unpopular, adding that “no one ever heard of her”.
“I know nothing about this woman, and neither does anyone else! In fact, to the best of my knowledge, no one ever heard of her other than the fact that she, very obviously, hates Israel,” he stated on Truth Social.
