Lagos: Police apprehend alleged arms courier

The police command in Lagos says it arrested a suspected arms courier, Lukman Sanni.
In a statement on Tuesday, the command’s spokesman, Abimbola Adebisi, said the suspect was arrested during a stop-and-search operation in the Iyana Isashi area.
Ms Adebisi stated that a search conducted on him led to the recovery of a locally made pistol, two live cartridges and a suspected charm.
“Preliminary investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the possession and intended delivery of the recovered firearm and ammunition,” she said.
The police said the suspect was in custody and providing useful information to aid the investigation.
The police commissioner, Tijani Fatai, reiterated the command’s commitment to combating illegal firearms possession, arms trafficking, cultism and other criminal activities across the state.
