A group, West Africa Network for Peacebuilding (WANEP) Nigeria, has called on the Federal Government and the security agencies to tackle the security challenges currently confronting Plateau State and other parts of the nation.

WANEP National Coordinator, Patience Obaulo, made the call during a road walk it organised on Tuesday in Jos.

Mrs Obaulo said that the killings and wanton destruction of farmlands and other property had brought untold hardship to residents, particularly women and children.

She explained that the walk was organised to specifically amplify the voices of Plateau State women in calling for an end to insecurity in the state.

The coodinator explained that the event was organised in collaboration with Plateau Peace Building Agency (PPBA) and supported by Urgent Action Fund.

He stated, “WANEP in collaboration with PPBA is deeply concern over the escalating security situation in Plateau. So, we are here to raise awareness on the importance of peace, security and peaceful coexistence among communities in Plateau.

“This walk is also amplify the voices of women and other community stakeholders in calling for an end to violence and promoting collective responsibility for peacebuilding.

“We are advocating concrete action by relevant government institutions, security agencies and community leaders to address insecurity, protect lives and strengthen community safety.”

Speaking, the Vice President of Plateau Peace Practitioners Network, Maimuna Abdullahi, decried the rising cases of rape due to incessant conflicts in the state.

Mr Abdullahi called on women to rise against conflict enablers in communities, adding such move would entrench peaceful coexistence in the state.
