Police identify officers in viral Osun brutality video, begin probe
The police have identified officers allegedly involved in the assault of a suspect in a viral video in Ede, Osun.
The police said an investigation had commenced.
The assistant inspector-general of police in charge of Zone 11, Osogbo, Bassey Ewah, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday.
Mr Ewah said the police expressed concern over the incident, stressing that the force does not tolerate brutality, intimidation or abuse of power by its personnel.
He said officers found guilty of misconduct or violating police regulations would face appropriate disciplinary action in accordance with the police regulations.
“No officer is above the law and the uniform must never be used as a licence to abuse the rights of citizens,” he said
The AIG added that police officers must discharge their duties with professionalism, restraint and respect for the fundamental human rights of citizens.
He urged the public to remain calm, refrain from jumping to conclusions, and allow the authorities to conduct a thorough investigation.
Mr Ewah also reiterated the command’s commitment to accountability, transparency and the protection of lives and property in Osun and Oyo.
