Coach urges Flamingos to defeat Japan to win first-ever U-17 World Cup trophy
Coach of the Flamingos, Akeem Busari, has called on his team to focus on defeating Japan, on Saturday, in the final of the Under-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco, to win the trophy, rather than settling for a silver or bronze medal.
Mr Busari disclosed this on Wednesday, after his team defeated Brazil 3-1, in their first-ever semi-final of the competition, to qualify for their first-ever final, as they hope to also win the trophy for the first time in their history.
Speaking on the achievement by the Flamingos, after the semi-final victory, Mr Busari said, “It’s just for us to tell them it’s one game and the other. We’re playing Japan now, it’s another different ball game, another different character. It’s just for us to concentrate, let’s put the icing on the cake, focus and finish the job, because the job is not yet done.
“We’re still in process. You know, the semi-final, we’re on the medals table, but the trophy is the major thing our country wants. We want it as well, we just need to fight.”
Mr Busari while stating that the journey to the World Cup final has not been easy, commended his team’s character, commitment and zeal, but advised them to be cautious, hold their heads up, and do the needful.
