Alleged goat thief nabbed by police in Niger

The police command in Niger says it arrested Adamu Abubakar, a suspected thief.
In a statement on Thursday, the command’s spokesperson, Wasiu Abiodun, said the Maitumbi Division received a report that two suspects were scouting for goats to steal in the Agwan-Kampani area.
“On 26th October, 2026 at about 9:00 a.m., a report received at Maitumbi Div indicated that two unidentified suspects with a Mazda vehicle, bearing Reg. No. KNT 38 AG and dark tinted glasses, were found around Angwan-Kampani, suspected to be scouting for goats to steal in the area,” he said.
Community members chased the vehicle to the residence of Mr Abubakar, aka Yellow, behind Tipper Garage in Maitumbi, where the occupants abandoned the vehicle and fled.
According to the police, Mr Abubakar owned the vehicle and was subsequently arrested.
Mr Abiodun said that during interrogation, the suspect confessed that the vehicle’s driver was his employee and resided in Korokpan.
“He claimed that he sent the driver with the vehicle on an errand, but he refused to produce the driver for interrogation,” he said.
