Police arrest suspects for cultism, theft in Delta

The police command in Delta State has arrested suspects for alleged cultism and theft in separate operations in the Agbarho and Oghara area of the state during patrol and recovered six firearms during the operation.
In a statement on Friday, the command’s spokesman, Bright Edafe, said two suspected cultists were arrested on Wednesday while on patrol along the Agbarho–Warri Expressway.
He stated that the police arrested Mr Akpoghene Goodluck 34, who attempted to evade the operatives.
“A search of the premises where he was apprehended led to the recovery of two locally fabricated guns and ten expended cartridges,” he said.
Mr Edafe noted that further investigation led to the arrest of Solomon Arhugberume James, 50, from whose residence one pump-action gun and one live cartridge were recovered.
He added that both suspects claimed membership of the Nigeria Hunters and Forest Security outfit but could not produce identification to substantiate their claims.
Similarly, Mr Edafe said in another incident, police arrested Clinton Awuerowswo, a suspect who had been at large following the recovery of firearms from his residence on March 23, 2026.
“The recovered exhibits include one Beretta pistol, two locally made cut-to-size guns, three live cartridges, a battle axe and a jackknife,” he said.
He noted that during preliminary investigation, the suspect reportedly admitted ownership of the weapons and membership of the Eiye confraternity.
Mr Edafe added that the investigation is ongoing.
