The Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission (LASERC) has inaugurated a consumer resolution panel to address unresolved complaints between electricity consumers and distribution companies in the state.

The panel commenced proceedings on November 4, 2026, with its first sitting focusing on complaints involving Eko Power that had not been resolved through the company’s internal complaint-handling process.

The initiative aims to provide consumers with an accessible and transparent platform to seek redress while strengthening accountability among electricity distribution companies.

The Chairman of the panel, Otunba Akin-Olugbade, said the body would examine unresolved complaints, review evidence and issue appropriate decisions in line with existing regulatory provisions.

Mr Olugbade advised consumers experiencing problems with electricity bills, metering, disconnection and power supply to first report them to their distribution companies and obtain complaint reference numbers.

“Where the complaints remain unresolved, consumers can escalate them to LASERC through Consumersaffairs@laserc.com.ng, providing their account or meter numbers, contact details and relevant supporting documents.”

Some consumers who participated in the inaugural sitting commended the commission for the process.

One of the complainants, Chief Maculary, rated the proceedings 10 out of 10, describing the panel as a welcome development that would make electricity providers more accountable.

Another complainant, Joshua Giwa, said “the process was seamless and fair,” adding that his complaint, which had not been resolved through the distribution company’s internal channel, received attention.

He urged other residents facing similar challenges to use the platform rather than resort to confrontation with electricity providers.

LASERC said the panel would strengthen consumer protection and public confidence in the Lagos electricity market by providing a formal channel for resolving disputes between customers and service providers.
