2027: Voting for Tinubu compulsory for Jigawa residents because he is Muslim, says assembly speaker

He described support for Mr Tinubu as a religious obligation.

• November 8, 2026

The Speaker of the Jigawa House of Assembly, Haruna Dangyatin, says voting for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections is compulsory for residents.

Mr Dangyatin made the declaration on Saturday at the inauguration of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential and governorship campaign council in Dutse.

He described support for Mr Tinubu as a religious obligation, citing the president’s Muslim faith, his Muslim running mate and support for the North.

The speaker recalled Mr Tinubu’s role in facilitating former President Muhammadu Buhari’s emergence, saying the North should reciprocate the support.

“Tinubu is our fellow Muslim and a leader who has the interests of Jigawa State at heart,” he said.

He noted that although Jigawa was initially excluded from the president’s campaign itinerary, Mr Tinubu would now visit the state.

“That is why we must vote for him and support the APC at all levels,” Mr Dangyatin said.

On the party’s preparations, the speaker expressed confidence in its strength, citing the presence of former governors, senators and federal lawmakers. He said the turnout demonstrated the APC’s broad support across Jigawa.

Mr Dangyatin, who also coordinates the City Boy Movement in Jigawa, said the group would intensify grassroots mobilisation ahead of the elections.

He said members would visit communities and households to explain the activities of Mr Tinubu and Governor Umar Namadi.

“We will take the City Boy Movement across Jigawa, going from house to house to tell the people what President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and our governor are doing,” he said.
