NEMA receives six Nigerian U.S. returnees at Lagos airport

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has received six Nigerians who arrived in Lagos from the United States following the intervention of Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In a statement, the agency said the returnees were received at the Cargo Terminal of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos State.
The agency said the reception exercise was conducted in collaboration with relevant stakeholders, including the United States Consulate, the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) and ExecuJet.
“The returnees arrived at approximately 10:13 p.m. aboard a Beechcraft 1900 aircraft with registration number N62FF. The group comprised five males and one female, all adults,” it said.
It said NIS officers conducted immigration documentation and profiling upon the returnees’ arrival to ensure proper identification, record-keeping and a smooth reception process.
NEMA said it coordinated the reception alongside the relevant agencies and provided necessary reception and post-arrival support services to facilitate the returnees’ transition.
It added that the exercise reflected the Federal Government’s commitment to ensuring the safe, orderly and dignified return of Nigerian citizens through coordinated engagement with relevant agencies and partners.
The Peoples Gazette had previously reported that NEMA received 180 Nigerians returning from Libya , following intervention by the Assisted Voluntary Return Programme coordinated by the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
On May 11, NEMA received 170 stranded Nigerians repatriated from Tripoli, Libya, following collaboration with the IOM.
