Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi on Saturday said smart restrictions would gradually replace lockdown as the country battles the global COVID-19 pandemic.

According to the Iranian presidential website, Mr Raisi also called for the coordination of the country’s health and education ministries to vaccinate students over the age of 12.

“Lack of attention to hygiene in the fight against the coronavirus is very dangerous, and health regulations should still be strictly observed,” he said.

The president added that it was wrong to think that injecting a vaccine would create absolute safety for people.

By Friday, Iran had reported 5,601,565 COVID-19 cases, of whom 120,663 have died.

The infection and fatality cases in Iran shows a downward trend over the past week.
