Police officers have reportedly killed two civilians that allegedly tried to resist arrest during a drugs bust in Kano. The incident occured on Saturday by Sharada Estate, police said.

Kano police spokesman Abdullah Haruna told Peoples Gazette Sunday that the civilians were killed when police raided the area to track down notorious drug dealers and thugs.

Police attached to the command’s operational unit killed two persons during clashes with some thugs and drug dealers on Saturday,” he said.

Police noted that the officers that opened live ammunition that killed two youths have been arrested alongside some civilians and taken into custody at the state’s CID unit in Bompai.

This excessive use of force came despite last month’s protests by Nigerians against decades of police brutality.
