Omodewu emerges Oyo APC chairman amidst party crisis

Isaac Omodewu, a former commissioner under the administration of the late former Governor Abiola Ajimobi in Oyo State has emerged as the consensus chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
Mr Omodewu emerged during the state congress held at the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium in Ibadan on Saturday after it was boycotted by some leaders of the party in the state.
Presided over by the state congress committee led by Gambo Lawan, the event was earlier postponed more than twice over alleged irregularities and falsification of the delegates’ list.
The state chairman of the party, Akin Oke, had on Friday in a statement, raised alrm that the delegates’ list had been falsified.
Those who attended the congress that produced Mr Omodewu as the chairman, include former Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala; Teslim Folarin; Asimiyu Alarape, former speaker of the state assembly, and some serving members of the assembly.
Mr Omodewu in his acceptance speech said, “I belong to no one, I belong to all members of our great party. My main task is to unite all tendencies within the party and lead APC to victory in 2023 general elections and beyond.”
Some members of the party, led by Senator Ayoade Adeseun, had earlier on Saturday at a news conference held at Premier Hotel, Ibadan, had called for the suspension of the congress, describing it as “a mere birthday celebration”.
The aggrieved members appealed to the national leadership of the party to delay the state congress till when an authentic delegates’ list was provided, accusing “a serving senator and former governor” of falsifying the delegates’ list.
