Elisha Abbo on Wednesday dumped the Peoples Democratic Party for the All Progressives Congress.

Mr. Abbo, a senator from Adamawa, said his rift with his state governor compelled him to abandon the platform that brought him to office in 2019.

This announcement was made today in a letter read by Senate President Ahmad Lawan at the plenary.

“In living up to the expectation of the good people of Adamawa North Senatorial District, I hereby defect from the PDP to the APC with effect from today being Wednesday, the 25th day of November, 2020,” the letter read.

In the letter, Mr. Abbo stated that his decision to defect to the APC is because of the Governor Umaru Fintiri, whom he accused of mismanaging Adamawa resources.

His defection comes a week after Governor David Umahi dumped the PDP in favour of the APC in Ebonyi, a move hailed by President Muhammadu Buhari.

The president described Mr. Umahi’s defection as a bold move driven by principle rather than opportunistic motives, but he has yet to welcome Mr. Abbo, who was locked in a scandal last year for physically assaulting a woman at a sex toy shop in Abuja.
