Pope Leo XIV discharged from hospital after cancer surgery
Pope Leo XIV has been discharged from hospital after a successful lung cancer surgery.
The Vatican on Saturday announced the pontiff “was discharged from Rome’s Gemelli Hospital and returned to the papal apartments in Vatican City State on Saturday afternoon.”
The Vatican also published photos of the pontiff leaving a building and another of him sitting in a car, waving at people.
In a separate statement, the Holy See Press Office announced that the pope will lead “the noonday Angelus prayer on Sunday from the window of the Apostolic Palace.”
The pope was discharged four days after a successful surgery that lasted about “90 minutes” on Tuesday.
The Vatican announced that the pontiff’s “intraoperative histological examination confirmed the diagnosis of lung adenocarcinoma, as suspected from the preoperative examinations.”
