Ondo first-class monarch killed by bandits

Armed attackers have killed a revered traditional ruler in Ondo State. Adegoke Adeusi, Olufon of Ifon, was killed near his community by armed assailants on Thursday night.
He was returning from a meeting of traditional rulers in Akure, the state capital, police said. The police have yet to identify the attackers, whom conflicting reports described as kidnappers and armed robbers.
Multiple reports also said the king was initially kidnapped, but was later killed after he tried to escape with his driver. The police have yet to confirm the specifics of the claims.
Ondo has faced severe security crises in recent years, recording some of the most horrific cases of banditary and armed robbery.
In mid-2019, Funke Olakunrin, a daughter of Yoruba leader Reuben Fasoranti, was killed while traveling from Akure to Lagos. The police arrested suspects in the attack earlier this year, but prosecution has stalled ever since.
