The Lagos State Government through its legal team before the Lagos State Judicial Panel of inquiry has attempted to have some of the footage gotten from the toll plaza’s CCTV discarded.Â
The argument presented by the government’s lawyers is that nothing in the footage between 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. is relevant to the findings of the panel.
The panel went into recess to discuss the issue. When it returned, it was agreed that indeed the footage is vital to the investigation. However, the panel was faced with technical issues with the projector. As such, the matter will be taken up another day.
Peoples Gazette had reported that the Lekki Concession Company (LCC) had presented 20-hours worth of footage to the panel.Â
It was established last week by the lawyers, from the footage that the cameras were manually controlled, despite the LCC’s earlier claim that their staff had left in accordance with the curfew and that the cameras ran automatically.
An examination of the CCTV footage of the day’s incident before the Lagos panel revealed that at least seven military trucks were deployed to the venue that day.
The footage was played on Saturday prior to the cross-examination of Brig.-Gen. Ahmed Taiwo, commander of Nigerian Army 81 Division, Victoria Island, last week.
