Officers of the Nigerian Custom Service, led by a man identified as Jude, on Thursday, opened fire on a family of three, killing their one-year-old daughter on the spot.

The incident occurred in front of the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro in Ogun state. Sources told Peoples Gazette that the officers had thought the family was conveying rice in a small white sack.

After the heinous murder of the child, it was later revealed that the couple were carrying Banana flour.

Mother of the baby, Nimota Adeleye, was said to have also sustained gunshot injuries and is being treated at a hospital in the area.

The service did not respond to calls and messages from The Gazette as at the time of filing this report.
